A Day in the Life
Working in payroll means delivering accuracy at pace. A typical day might start with processing weekly or monthly payrolls, checking client data, and making sure everything matches up. You might then handle queries about tax codes, pensions or maternity pay, or help a business understand a change in legislation.
Collaboration is key — you’ll work closely with Accounts, Tax and Client Support to ensure everything aligns. It’s a fast-moving area, but that’s what makes it rewarding.

Payroll Assistant
Supports the team with data entry, checking timesheets, preparing payroll runs, and handling admin tasks. A great role for those beginning in payroll or HR finance.
Payroll Officer
Manages regular payroll runs, ensures compliance, handles client queries, and works across multiple industries. Builds deep knowledge of payroll systems and legislation.
Payroll Senior
Oversees more complex payrolls, reviews team output, trains junior staff, and advises clients on technical payroll matters.
Payroll Manager
Leads the department, ensuring quality and compliance across all payroll operations. Works closely with clients, manages workflows, and implements improvements to support growth.
Pensions & Auto-Enrolment Specialist
Handles enrolment processes, pension uploads, compliance checks, and employer responsibilities, ensuring clients meet workplace pension regulations.
