A Day in the Life
A typical day in the Finance Team might involve preparing internal financial reports, reconciling firm-wide accounts, reviewing expense reports, forecasting next quarter’s internal budget, liaising with external audit partners, or supporting leadership with financial analysis and strategic planning. The work requires attention to detail, strong organisational skills, and a mindset geared toward long-term stability and compliance.
Roles within the Team
Here are some of the different roles you’ll find in our Accounts Department at Carston ETL — and what each role contributes
Head of Finance
Oversees all internal financial operations, leads financial reporting and compliance, and ensures the firm’s books are maintained accurately.
Finance Manager
While the public site does not list a large “internal-only finance staff roster,” our broader team of managers and consultants (across audit, tax, corporate services) contribute to firm-wide finance tasks, bridging internal needs and client-facing responsibilities. For example, experienced managers such as Graham Lowe or Luke Govier may take on finance-team responsibilities alongside their client work as needed.
Accounts Assistant / Finance Administrator
Supports day-to-day finance operations, including processing invoices, reconciling bank statements, handling payroll liaison, and assisting senior staff with reporting.
Management Accountant
Focuses on internal financial planning, preparing forecasts, analysing performance, and providing actionable insights to leadership to guide business decisions.
Credit Control
Manages incoming payments from clients, ensures timely collection of fees, reconciles accounts receivable, and communicates with client contacts regarding invoices and balances.
